A Snapshot of Summer: Comparing The Well’s Advice Centre’s Work, One Year Apart

We like to pause every now and again to look at our work during a specific time period to better understand the needs of our community.  When we compare this month in 2024 to the same month in 2025, the picture that emerges tells a story of shifting challenges and increasing demand.

The Shift from Housing to Universal Credit

One trend we’ve observed is a change in the primary reason people came to us for advice. From 20 June- 20 July 2024, our top concern was Housing. While those issues continue to be significant to many, this year, Universal Credit was the most requested form of assistance.

This shift is an indication of the ongoing financial pressures facing families. Navigating the complexities of the benefits system can be overwhelming, and this statistic shows that more people are turning to us to ensure they receive the support they are entitled to.

 

More People, More Work, More Impact

The comparison between this time last year also reveals an increase in the overall demand for our services.

• 251 clients helped: This is a substantial jump from the 181 clients we assisted during the same period in 2024.
• 753 visits to the advice centre: Our doors were busier with visits increasing by nearly 50% compared to last year’s 505.

These numbers highlight the growing need for our support and explain why our team completed a remarkable 561 items of work this year, up from 343 in June-July 2024.
