Why Volunteer with The Well?

Volunteering at The Well is about more than just giving your time—it’s about building a stronger community, changing lives and giving hope. When you volunteer with us, you’ll gain new skills, meet compassionate individuals, and see firsthand the difference your support makes in the lives of people who need it most.

As a Christian charity, our mission is to serve our multi-cultural neighbours holistically by providing essential services and creating spaces for connection, support, and empowerment.

We believe everyone has something valuable to offer, and your unique skills can help transform lives. Whether you have just a few hours to spare each week or want to bring your expertise to the table, your time and effort can make a lasting impact.

How You Can Help:

Here are some of the ways you can volunteer and make a difference at The Well:

1. Advice Workers

Do you have a passion for helping others? As an Advice Worker, you’ll be at the heart of our mission, supporting individuals who need guidance on a range of issues at our Advice Centre.

What you’ll do:

  • Provide one-to-one consultations with clients, helping them fill out forms and access vital services.
  • Offer guidance and information to help clients make informed decisions.

You’ll be making a difference by:

  • Empowering individuals to navigate complex systems and access support they may otherwise struggle to find.
  • Building trust with people from diverse backgrounds, helping them feel heard and valued.

What you need:

  • Strong communication and listening skills.
  • A patient, empathetic nature, and a desire to support people in need.
  • Bonus: Experience in customer service, welfare support, or working with diverse communities is a plus, but not essential.

2. Play Workers

Are you good with kids? Join us as a Play Worker at our Bubbles Toddler Group or assist during our ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) classes. Help create a safe and engaging environment for children and parents to interact, learn, and connect. (Parent/Carer’s are present at all times)

What you’ll do:

  • Assist with playtime activities such as crafts, games, and free play.
  • Help provide snacks and engage with children during breaks.
  • Support parents and caregivers as they connect with others.

You’ll be making a difference by:

  • Providing a welcoming space for children and parents to relax, play, and form connections.
  • Helping reduce social isolation for parents, offering them a chance to meet new people in a safe environment.

What you need:

  • A love for children and a welcoming, patient attitude.
  • Enjoy facilitating fun and creative activities.
  • Experience working with children (optional, but helpful).

3. Women’s Workers

Some of the women we work with face social isolation. As a Women’s Worker, you’ll help these women grow in confidence and new skills, whether through our ‘Chai and Chat’ social group, ESOL classes, or Bubbles Toddler Group.

What you’ll do:

  • Facilitate social and educational activities that promote connection and growth.
  • Help women build confidence through conversations and support.
  • Offer encouragement, listening, and practical help when needed.

You’ll be making a difference by:

  • Supporting women in overcoming isolation and becoming more involved in their community.
  • Helping women build confidence in their personal skills and social networks.

What you need:

  • A compassionate, open-minded attitude toward women from diverse backgrounds.
  • An interest in helping others develop and grow their skills.

Training & Support

At The Well, we will equip you with the tools you need to succeed in your role at a volunteer. All volunteers will:

  • Shadow an experienced volunteer to learn the ropes and familiarise yourself with our procedures.
  • Have access to training opportunities throughout the year to help you grow in your role .
