Information
There would be no ‘Well’ without our fantastic team of dedicated volunteers. Each individual brings so much to the team and to our community. The demand for our services is high, so we are always looking for new recruits to become part of our team!
Do you like helping people solve their problems?
Perhaps you love working with children, or want more experience of working with people from different cultures?
Do you share our values and agree with our ethos?
We might have the right volunteering opportunity for you:
– Advice Workers
Our primary service is offering one-to-one Advice Consultations to ethnic minority clients mainly from the Govanhill area. Skills that are helpful for this role are, excellent communication skills, particularly listening, familiarity with completing online forms and processes and problem solving skills.
– Play Workers
Play Workers are a great help at our Bubbles Toddler Group. They can also help look after children during our ESOL English Classes. Parents are present at all times, so you will not be responsible for the children but you can help facilitate activities such as craft times or engage with children during free play, as well as help provide snacks.
– Women’s Workers
We do a lot of work with ethnic minority women, including ‘Chai and Chat’, a women’s social/craft group, ESOL English Classes and Bubbles Toddler Group. Often the women we meet have been socially isolated and are keen to meet new people. Our women’s workers get to know them and help them to grow in confidence and new skills.
Training
All our volunteers will initially shadow a more experienced volunteer to gain knowledge and learn procedures. In-house and/or external training sessions will be arranged a few times a year on topics such as cultural awareness, welfare, immigration, or safeguarding, particularly when there are significant changes to current systems or policies.
