The Well is delighted to announce that after a very long search, we have found a fantastic new building! We plan to long-term lease part of a new-build on Allison Street, in the heart of Govanhill. We have the unique opportunity to fit out the building according to our needs and, of course, those of our clients.
This new building will give us 50% more space, increasing our capacity to help more people every day. As we often deal with sensitive topics, such as financial concerns or relationship issues, we will be able to ensure there are more areas where privacy can be achieved for our clients. The additional space will also allow more room for group activities, such as digital workshops and craft activities.
The location of the building is perfect: within easy walking distance for the vast majority of our clients, most of whom do not own cars. Our landlords, Southside Housing Association, are also well-known to us as we have worked in partnership with them for many years to offer a Welfare Rights Surgery.
The increased space is expected to create a bustling community hub where many in the community come for support and advice. We are looking forward to being able to offer a genuinely warm, welcoming and accessible environment to our clients.
The fit-out is expected to cost around £140,000 and fundraising is underway. We have launched a New Building Appeal on social media (@TheWellGlasgow), called ‘All we want for Christmas’. Help us to create the best environment for our clients and our dedicated team of volunteers by donating to our appeal and liking and sharing our posts.
