2024 in review

2024: A year of connection, support, and community at The Well!

Every year is special and 2024 is no different. The Well has given 30-years of service to Govanhill,  helping to support and strengthen community connection. From life-changing advice work to fun group outings, it’s the people – our clients, group members, staff, and volunteers,  – who make The Well what it is. Here are some highlights from the past year.

The Advice Centre: Making a Real Difference

The Advice Centre is the heart of The Well.  In 2024 we opened over 2700 cases to support over 1,400 people, equating to 7,000 visits to the advice centre so that we could provide guidance on everything from housing and benefits to pensions and council tax. Each case is unique, requiring time, expertise, and care to untangle complex issues.  One example is the story of a family that had three generations living in the same small flat. They came to The Well seeking financial help and with teamwork (including support from the local MP), we were able to secure pension credit for the oldest members of the family. It was not a quick process but the outcome made such a huge difference to the family, This story highlights the time invested in giving advice and the real difference our advice work makes in people’s lives.

30 Years of The Well

The Well was much smaller when it began way back in 1994.  This year, we celebrated three decades of service, reflection, and growth. Our 30th anniversary is a significant milestone moment, reaffirming The Well’s commitment to being a place of hope, connection, and practical support for the future. The Well is proud to serve the vibrant, diverse community of Govanhill.  We consider it a privilege to walk alongside our clients, helping them navigate challenges and find a way forward.

Growth in Our Men’s Group

2024 also marked a milestone for our Men’s Group as it celebrated it’s first birthday. The group has has blossomed into a thriving community where men from all walks of life come together for companionship, support, and shared experiences. The Men’s Group is a testament to the power of belonging and mutual encouragement, creating a positive impact on the men who come along.

A Year of Connection

From our life-changing advice work to our enriching group activities, including our many women’s groups, 2024 has been about connection. From hosting fun outings to welcoming volunteers and guests, it’s the people who truly make The Well what it is. Every client, group member, staff member, volunteer, and supporter plays a vital role in creating the warm, welcoming environment that defines The Well.
